Birth of HolTimerIt was a cold and rainy August day in London, the big grey clouds were low in the sky and were threatening to turn the average rain into a flooding. A man is sitting at his desk in an office devoid of colour, bar the brightly coloured poles holding up the ceiling making it look like a cross between a playgroup and a mental asylum. Sitting at his desk with a suitcase beside him, he looks at his watch. He sighs, now 3 hours and 10 minutes until his holiday.Less than 2 hours ago, he neatly packaged up the latest release of his work, filled in the release form and sent it off to the testing department. Now all he can do is wait, no bugs will be reported until he gets back. He looks at his watch again: 3 hours and 8 minutes. He brings up a browser and starts to think about browsing the web, but it has lost its appeal. He looks at his watch again: 3 hours and 5 minutes. "That's it!", his pupils dilate, the rush of adrenaline that comes with every good idea flows through his body. "What I need is something to count down to my holiday." Happy with the new task of developing a holiday timer, he works constantly until it is time to go on holiday. Thus the first version of HolTimer is born. FeaturesRuns on Windows 9x/NT/2K/XPAllows you to set the background bitmap. Various flashing profiles (off, flashing, flashing for last 5 minutes, progressive). Allows multiple timers to be run (using holtimer x command-line where x is the profile number). Minimize feature (show only in the taskbar). Future EnhancementsI intend to add better configurability to the app by adding skins that allow you not only to set the bitmap but the font, size and position of the texts. Also intend the ability to attach multiple timer windows and move them around together etc. |
